ASSISTANT JUDGES

Hon. Elizabeth Battey

Elizabeth served as the Court Manager and/or Deputy Manager at Family and District Courts in Barre for 18 years. She acted as Washington County Clerk in Montpelier for 8 years and managed the Montpelier Passport Office for 9 years. She worked alongside numerous Assistant Judges in all of these capacities.

Elizabeth brings knowledge and experience of court process and county administration to this role, as well as enthusiasm and a strong desire to serve the Washington County community.

Hon. Leah Murphy Jones

Hon. Leah Murphy Jones

Leah Murphy Jones’s professional background includes editing and proofreading work at legal and academic book publishers in Boston and Vermont, paralegal work in two family law firms in San Diego, and program and retreat work at Vermont College of Fine Arts. In addition, Judge Jones has been a small business owner in Vermont since 2007.

Judge Jones was appointed to the bench by Governor Phil Scott in February of 2022 to fill a vacancy left by beloved former Assistant Judge Otto Trautz after his passing. She was elected for a full term which began in February of 2023.
